You thought that the Modix Big-180X was too large for your projects, hah? Yaroslavl-based Russian constructional 3D printing company AMT Specavia, a resident of the Skolkovo foundation, is building a whole housing settlement with the help of the in-house developed constructional 3D printer named S-300.

The construction of the first house ended at the beginning of the fall of 2021. The price of the house was estimated to be 29,000 rubles per square meter (under $400), so a house with an area of 46 square meters (1,076 square feet) would cost 914,000 rubles (a little under $13,000) without home decor. The second house was to be built in 30 hours to understand the capabilities of the printer and for better time management. The third house should showcase the abilities of the company’s 3D printer for producing the houses with complex architectural geometries.

Aleksandr Maslov, CEO of AMT Specavia, commented: “Hardwire-design-wise there is not much difference between a constructional 3D printer and a regular FDM one. Both are similar to the CNC machines but the constructional 3D printers are significantly bigger. But they allow to bring to life almost any architectural idea. The device can print regular rectangular houses or something with curved facades, towers or pillars. This also significantly automates the process: reducing construction time in 1.5 times compared to the traditional methods”.

The houses have wiring, are connected to the electric grid, water grid and a septic system. All of the houses will be legally registered as a hotel complex at the training center of the AMT Specavia, where the experts of the company will explain how constructional 3D printing works to the clients.

Oleg Dubnov, Vice-President and Executive Director at Skolkovo Energy Efficiency Cluster, commented: “3D printing of buildings and constructional elements has high potential and can become a worldwide trend in the near future. All of the industries are following the path of becoming more efficient due to automation. These changes have not yet affected the production processes of the construction industry, so Russian companies have a chance to become the leaders of the field. The integration of the technologies that reduce costs and construction times in the world of labor shortage will play a big role”.

The first 3D printed living house in Europe was finished in the fall of 2017 by AMT Specavia (it’s pictured above).
