U.S.-based 3D Systems released two updated versions of their Geomagic reverse engineering software: Geomagic Design X and Geomagic Wrap. Both programs work with scanned data and feature various innovative capabilities. They are designed to streamline workflows and provide quality, high-precision models made from 3D scans.
Radhika Krishnan, Executive Vice President at 3D Systems, said that their most comprehensive reverse engineering solution features a wide range of best-in-class products. Robust scan processing and ability to design CAD models is essential for speeding up product development.

Geomagic Design X
The new version of Geomagic Design X combines 3D scan processing and full CAD design to offer an entire toolset for reverse engineering. The 2D nature of many workspaces make it difficult to operate with 3D CAD software. A functional revolved part requires a lot of experimentation and trial and error. The new 'Unroll/Reroll' function aims to offer a lot of mesh processing functionality. It makes it possible to unroll the mesh, work with a 2D image and then roll it back into a 3D model. If everything is working as it should, users can expect higher precision and "94% efficiency improvement".

The latest software also has new ‘Selective Surfacing’ functions that make it easier to hybrid model a CAD file from a 3D scanned mesh. They blend fast organic surfacing and high-precision feature modeling to boost productivity and increase downstream CAD re-useability. In addition, the program's early feature and capability preview framework allow users to provide feedback and for continuous refinements.
Geomagic Wrap
The new edition of Geomagic Wrap software improves software abilities to convert 3D scanned data and turn it into usable 3D models. According to 3D Systems, automatic scripting and ability to alter workflow with the new Python-based script editor provide options to boost efficiency and meet the specific requirements of certain workflows and applications.
The latest release also comes with new tools for texture map manipulation for scan texture and color enhancements. They can manage complex geometries without the need to import a model into CAD software solutions. The “HD Mesh Construction” features make it possible to work with 3D data using point clouds and fill the gaps in places with missed data.
