Let me clarify: if you have a patch—send it. If you have a bug report with reproduction steps—send it. If you have an idea on how to improve the scheduler—send it. But if your contribution to the discussion is kindergarten-level "no, you!" nonsense, then sorry, my spam filter works better than your arguments.

You know the difference between me and a "goat"? A goat at least eats grass and gives milk. So far, you haven't contributed a single line of code, one coherent suggestion, or even a decent bug report. Just empty noise.

The irony is, if everyone who thinks I'm a "goat" had sent even one working commit instead, Linux would already be in orbit. But no—it's easier to hammer the keyboard and feel like a hero.

You really think quoting my own style back at me is going to make this any less stupid?  
You copied the format, the git commit joke, even the P.S. challenge — and still managed to send zero actual content.

Newsflash: parody isn't contribution.  
Mimicking my tone doesn't make your message useful.  
And calling me a "goat" (or whatever farm animal you pick next) is still just ******** noise.

I get it — you read some old LKML threads, thought "hey, this is how Linus talks", and decided to play along.  
Cute. But the difference is: when I rant, it's usually because somebody sent broken code that wastes everybody's time.  
When you do it, it's because... what? You got butthurt over a sarcastic reply to your original "benevolent dictator" jab?

If you want to keep this going, fine.  
But do it properly:

- Send a patch that fixes something real.  
- Or a bug report with clear steps to reproduce.  
- Or even just explain coherently why you think the "dictator" model is broken — with examples from the kernel tree, not kindergarten insults.

No? Then this is just another loop of ******** back-and-forth.

Меня раздражает штампование мажорных версий чуть-ли не каждую неделю. Из-за этого непонятно где полностью новая версия, где новая фича а где патч. Может у кого-то на то есть веские причины, но я в своём софте продолжаю нумеровать версии по классике major.minor.patch, а к полной версии ещё и добавляю коммит из которого сбилдился дистрибутив, так что полная версия получается вида major.minor.patch-commit.

иногда лучше ~~жевать~~ разобраться в вопросе, это с чего вдруг у линупса раз в неделю мажор выходит? в целом, тебе это не надо - мэйнтейнеры дистриба за тебя разберутся, даже в роллингах не пихают распоследнее. в том же void до сих пор 6.12.73

По классике, как только ломается ABI, нужно увеличивать major. С философией "stable ABI is nonsense" у линукса уже четырёхзначные мажорные версии должны быть.

У линукса есть два ABI, user space и kernel space. Первый не ломался с версии 1.0, за вторым никто не следит и ломается он постоянно. Так что да, в обоих случаях разделение на major.minor согласно semver не имеет смысла. А вот patch в третьем компоненте используется вполне ожидаемым образом.

Меня это тоже бесит, но!
У вас используется семантическое версионирование. Поэтому вы первое число воспринимаете как мажор. А у них (линукс, файерфокс, хром и др.) не используется. У них это просто версия.
Поэтому тут только и остаётся, что по-олдскульному использовать семантическое версионирование там, где возможно. И ворчать на тех, кто его не использует.

Оно для либ больше подходит. Но по своему опыту, следить за этим очень тяжело. К примеру, класс. Если добавил или удалил поле... Уже ABI поломал. А если тот же класс создаёшь только в куче через фабрику, то добавление полей в конец уже ABI не ломает. Pimpl наше всё, но не всегда в кучу хочется.

Ну, на самом деле жизнь показала, что вполне достаточно major.patch, так как сейчас не особо принято вот прям ломать обратку (особенно после ранних версий) и проще просто нумеровать по спринтам
