Recently, Google enabled a new search mode with artificial intelligence—AI Mode. In it, answers are generated directly on the page, not just as a list of links. Google uses AI to gather the essence from various sources and show a short explanation, examples, and links for clarification.

If you want queries from the Chrome address bar to open directly in this new mode, you can do it in a couple of minutes:

  1. Open the Google Chrome browser.

  2. Paste into the address bar and press Enter:

    chrome://settings/searchEngines

  3. In the “Site search” section, click the “Add” button.

  4. In the window that appears, fill in the fields:

    • Search engine: type AI Mode (or any convenient name).

    • Shortcut: create a short shortcut, for example @ai or just ai.

    • URL with %s in place of query: paste the link:

      https://www.google.com/search?udm=50&q=%s

  5. Click “Add”.

  6. Find the entry you created named “AI Mode” in the list.
To the right, click the three dots and select “Make default”.

Done!
Now, when you type a query directly into the address bar, Chrome will open Google's AI mode and show results with an explanation from artificial intelligence.
