Every year on the latest weekend of January the Global Game Jam is held.
This year this event starts at 5 p.m. on Friday, January 31, and ends at 5 p.m. on Sunday, February 2. This weekend will be the hottest weekend of the month!
Global Game Jam is an event dedicated to creating games (for those who still doesn't know what Game Jam is). This event is an offline event so only people participating at Jam Sites are allowed to upload their works.
The Jam is happening across the globe. Full list of the Jam sites could be found here.
The event starts at 5 p.m., according to the local time of each Jam Site. This is one of the key features of Jam. Each site has its own time of the Jam's topic disclosure. Please, pay attention, that you're not allowed to share Jam's topic to participants in other cities so they should wait before the host reveals the theme of the event.
All submissions will be made under CC-NC-SA license (Creative Common NonCommercial ShareAlike). Any submission should include, if applicable: binary files, source code, any resources to build the binary from the source. The event allows you to use any game engines or programming languages. You are allowed to bring or to use pre-made resources (pictures, animations, any other assets). Games could get additional points for using diversifiers*. Sadly, this year's list of diversifiers hasn't been revealed yet. It will be disclosed later but before the event starts, you could prepare and choose something that suits you. For examples, you could read diversifiers from the last year event here.
Diversifiers* are a good way to add some fun or to challenge yourself. They could be useful to define your idea, to shape your game design. They are totally optionable. They could help to stand out your game among other applications. You could choose up to 4 diversifiers when submitting the game!
I should say that some of the Jam sites are using the external registration form, and some of them closing their registrations much earlier than the GGJ itself.
I wish all the participants to have fun and good luck!
