Chinese company Weistek offers low-price desktop MSLA 3D printers with 2K monochrome screens.
The Weistek L6 3D printer is a system made for hobbyists and the educational field, designed with ease of use in mind, as well as accuracy and efficiency. The latter is achieved with a monochrome 2K curing screen. The main specifications are similar to the closest competitors — Anycubic Photon Mono and Elegoo Mars 2 Pro: 6-inch curing screen with a 2K resolution, 47 microns of accuracy, 131 x 83 x 150 mm build volume. The printing speed over the Z-axis is claimed to be 50 mm/h. The aluminum print bed moves over two guiding rails. There are no details regarding the light source system apart from mentioning the ‘parallel’ sources.
The resin tank features a unique design by being both integrated and removable at once, acting like a cartridge with a volume of 400 ml. After installation, a gasket can be removed, after which resin will fill the tank. The idea is to make the process as convenient as possible and solve the issue of leftovers. The cartridges can be reused, and the FEP film is replaceable.
Weistek CEO Wenjuan Chen said: "One of the most daunting challenges for those looking to get started with SLA 3D printing is handling the resin. Most SLA 3D printers require manual filling of the resin vat with material that is toxic and irritating to the skin. Not only that, but the completed prints require washing with chemical solvents. Our goal with L6 was to eliminate this old system and create a safer, more user-friendly way to deal with resin. For L6, we begin with safe, eco-friendly plant-based resins that are non-toxic, odorless, and clean up with water. Then we designed a special disposable resin cartridge that is safe, fast, and easy to handle, making the printing process faster and hassle-free for users. This system simplifies the printing process, eliminates the need for solvents, saves time and boosts efficiency." -
The Weistek L6 comes with a proprietary software solution that includes an application with an access to the Doraware 3D models library and the D-Master slicer. The device is also compatible with popular ChiTuBox slicing software. The controls consist of a 3.5-inch full-color touchscreen, the connectivity options include USB, Wi-Fi and MicroUSD.
The Weistek L6 3D printer can be pre-ordered for HK$ 1,471 (around $189), with the shipping costs not included. Additional information is available at the official Kickstarter page of the printer.
