Made for scanning smalled objects, this affordable and lightweight solution, designed to be easy to use, can be a good choice for education and medical fields, as well as arts and museums. 

Anna Zevelyov, CEO of Thor3D, mentions that the device will grant the doctors the ability to scan any part of the body and even perform full-body scans. Museums will now be able to capture various collections with art objects of different sizes. She adds that their engineers conducted multiple tests before release that showed impressive results.

According to her, the device will be a great addition to the company’s portfolio, making their Calibry product line even more versatile and compelling.

The jewelry restoration was done with the help of both computer technologies and traditional methods. Wax, clay and bronze were used.

The archeologists restored a jewelry object made in the Iron Age. It was done with the help of digital technologies.

Restoration included scanning of the clay molds that were used for casting bronze in the 1st and 2nd centuries B.C. Original molds found in Cairns, at South Ronaldsay island of Orkney islands, Scotland, were too fragile to use for jewelry. 

Ben Price, a PhD student at the University of the Highlands and Islands, department of Archeology. Around 80 fragments of clay molds were found during the recent excavations of a broch dating back to the Iron Age in Cairns.

ruDALL-E: Generating Images from Text. Facing down the biggest computational challenge in Russia

Multimodality has led the pack in machine learning in 2021. Neural networks are wolfing down images, text, speech and music all at the same time.  OpenAI is, as usual, top dog, but as if in defiance of their name, they are in no hurry to share their models openly.  At the beginning of the year, the company presented the DALL-E neural network, which generates 256x256 pixel images in answer to a written request.  Descriptions of it can be found as articles on arXiv and examples on their blog.  

As soon as DALL-E flushed out of the bushes, Chinese researchers got on its tail.  Their open-source CogView neural network does the same trick of generating images from text.  But what about here in Russia? One might say that “investigate, master, and train” is our engineering motto.  Well, we caught the scent, and today we can say that we created from scratch a complete pipeline for generating images from descriptive textual input written in Russian.

In this article we present the ruDALL-E XL model, an open-source text-to-image transformer with 1.3 billion parameters as well as ruDALL-E XXL model, an text-to-image transformer with 12.0 billion parameters which is available in DataHub SberCloud, and several other satellite models.

Techstars Startup Digest was designed as a discovery tool for entrepreneurs looking for tech events in their area. It was founded in 2009 by Chris McCann who just moved to the Valley. He created an old-school newsletter, featuring promising events in the Bay Area. There was no website, all the events were hand-picked by Chris himself, and the newsletter had 22 subscribers. People liked the idea and that number quickly grew. In 2012 it was acquired by Startup Weekend. Three years later, Startup Weekend’s parent company UP Global was acquired by Techstars — and that’s how the project got its name.

Startup Digest can be a useful tool for startups and event coordinators. If you can successfully leverage it, your event, blog post and/or tech product can reach thousands of people at no cost.
