Meshtastic – a tactical radio chat without cellular service and internet. Part 2. Commercial Radio Modems

Reading time9 min
Reach and readers2.9K

In the previous article, we got acquainted with the Meshtastic project. We learned that it's possible to build your own radio chat based on a Mesh network, a regular smartphone, and a radio modem. The next logical questions people started asking were: What's next? How do I build this network? What should I buy?

The second part will describe several commercial kits for a Meshtastic modem from Aliexpress, their differences, and application features. If for some reason you are not interested in ready-made products, you can build a radio modem yourself. It's not difficult at all and is manageable even for the youngest and most novice radio amateur. Interested? Welcome to the second part under the cut.

To buy or not to buy? If to buy, then what?

Analysis of Telegram Accounts

Welcome back, dear readers! We are continuing our 'SHKH' series of articles, and today our main course is Telegram. In earlier articles, we looked at ways to find a target user's accounts by their nickname, after which we conducted reconnaissance on their account on the VKontakte social network. At this stage, our important goal is to find out the user's phone number, as the number can be a good starting point for reconnaissance and can reveal even more details about its owner. In the last article we tried to find out the number using a VKontakte page, and in this one, as you might have guessed from the title, we will try to find out as much information as possible about a Telegram account. This material has been edited and republished due to the blocking of the previous material by the RKN (Roskomnadzor) in the Russian Federation.

OSINT: A Toolkit for Analyzing VK Profiles

Reading time2 min
Reach and readers863

The vast majority of the OSINT community is interested in analyzing individuals. Well, so be it. I've prepared a selection of various bots and services for you (GB and others are not included in the list, as even the lazy know about them, and it's not really OSINT anyway).

In the RU segment, VK is the pioneer of social media analysis. Although Telegram has started to move away from being just a messenger, transforming into a social network and gaining more and more popularity, it still doesn't come close to the volume of potentially important information about a target.

It's worth noting that VKontakte is already starting to die out, and in my opinion, in two or three years, analysis of it will no longer be as relevant as it once was. People are using it noticeably less often. Still, VK remains a key tool for analyzing a person's biography, interests, social circle, origin, etc.

1. 220vk An old, good, and rather worn-out service that allows you to identify hidden friends, find out who the target has followed/unfollowed, and their interests based on subscriptions to communities and people (with a timeline), as well as what changes have been made to their profile, etc.

2. VKHistoryRobot A Telegram bot that gives you an idea of what a profile looked like in the past(very useful if the profile is private). It provides information in the form of a brief dump: Full Name; URL; photo.

3. FindClone, search4faces reverse image search services for VK that allow you to search for a profile using an uploaded photo. Of these two, search4faces is free.

4. Social Graph Bot a Telegram bot that allows you to build relationship graphs among a list of friends. With this tool, you will understand how diverse the social circle is, who among the friends is a relative, etc.; whether the account is legitimate and if it has connections to any group of people. (There are many applications, here is a guide from habr for you)

The work on the historical development plan case Vladimir city (Russia)

I am a russian cartographer Alexander Pronin and I am going to tell you how we together with my colleague Nikita Slavin, a map of the age of the houses of the city of Vladimir was created.

Data

For the layer with buildings I used a free map from OpenStreetMap. This layer contains the address, which is divided into columns, names of the objects and numbers of storeys. I collect data on the year of construction, address, name of the object and photos from several sources.

The first one is my project владимирдом.рф It’s a plot that I created to show the residents of my hometown how our city was built up. In this case I took the year of construction data from the website of the Ministry of Housing and Communal Services, for kindergartens and schools — from their official websites. A lot of information was sent also by site users. The map only shows the year of construction.

Geolocation and geoposition — mega-tool

Reading time5 min
Reach and readers3.3K

Introduction

Today, geolocation and geo-positioning have turned into a state that we did not dream about 60 years ago, during the first thoughts about creating an Internet network.

This article was prepared thanks to the IPGeolocation.io

Cartography has turned into a miracle — from insanely large sheets of paper to what fits in the palm of your hand.

Today, maps are used not only to search for a cultural center in Paris, but to be able to find everything:

  • nearest hotel
  • pharmacy or hospital
  • grocery store
  • university or school
  • Pink Concert venue in San Francisco

The transformation of technology will not stop there. It will be better and more accurate than ever.

Evolution in time

Let's see how the evolution of geolocation began. The journey of this phenomenon begins in ancient times.
